Vehicle and Machinery Seats – FAQs

Welcome to Seat Shop Australia’s FAQ page. Here you’ll find answers to common questions about choosing, maintaining, and installing seats for vehicles and machinery. Our team is here to help you find the right fit for your machine.

Choosing the Right Seat

How do I know which seat I need for my vehicle or machine?

We work with a wide range of trusted manufacturers to offer the best selection of replacement seats. Our team can also advise on upgrade options, such as air-ride suspension, lumbar support or armrests. If you’re unsure where to start, our seating specialists are here to help you choose the right fit for your machine.

What features should I look for if I sit for long hours?

Look for seats with good lumbar support, adjustable armrests, air-ride suspension, and quality foam for comfort and vibration absorption. Adjustable seat height and backrest tilt can also reduce fatigue.

Parts and Servicing

Can I get parts for my current seat?

Yes. We supply a full range of replacement parts and accessories, including service kits, rollers, shock absorbers, airbags, valves, switches, seat covers and seat belts. We also stock complete suspensions and seat uppers.

Do I need to service my seat?

Yes. Seats contain moving parts that wear over time, and components like dampers, air valves and foams eventually need replacing. Regular servicing helps maintain comfort, support and safety.

Checking Seat Condition

How do I check my seat?

Make sure all controls work as per the user manual, then check for free play in the suspension or frame. Ensure the damper provides controlled movement and that the foam and trim are in good condition. If something feels off, our team can inspect it.

What signs indicate my seat needs repair or replacement?

Look for excessive wear in the foam or trim, loose or noisy suspension components, malfunctioning controls, or visible damage to the frame. If the seat no longer provides proper support or comfort, it’s time for repair or replacement. Our team can inspect your seat and advise on the best solution.

Fitment and Modifications

If the seat or any part of it doesn’t fit, can it be modified?

In many cases, yes. Our team can assess your setup and advise on safe modifications or adaptors to ensure the seat fits correctly in your machine. If you’re unsure what’s possible, we’re here to help.

Can Seat Shop Australia adapt a seat from another manufacturer?

In many cases, yes. We can assess your setup and recommend safe modifications or adaptors to make the seat fit correctly. Our team ensures any adaptation maintains comfort, safety, and compliance where required.

Seat Changes & Regulations

Am I allowed to change seat types?

Yes, but you must follow local regulations. Some states and territories require an engineer’s certificate or “blue plate”. If you’re unsure, we’re happy to advise.

Are there differences in rules for commercial vs private vehicles?

Yes. Commercial vehicles often have stricter regulations regarding seat types, safety features, and modifications to remain roadworthy, while private vehicles may have more flexibility. It’s important to check local state or territory requirements before making changes. Our team can guide you to ensure any seat upgrades or replacements meet the correct standards of Queensland.

Installation Requirements

Do I need a mounting plate?

Sometimes. Changing brands or seat types may require a mounting bracket. Our team will confirm this before purchase, and adaptors are designed to fit existing mounting points.

When is a mounting plate necessary?

A mounting plate is needed when the new seat’s mounting points don’t match the original vehicle mounts. Our team checks this before purchase and provides the correct adaptors or plates for a safe and secure installation.
